Jake Picking is an American actor. He made his on-screen debut in 2013 in the movie The Way, Way Back. He then went on to make appearances in movies like Patriots Day, Blockers, and Sicario: Day of the Soldado, with a role earmarked in the upcoming movie Top Gun: Maverick.

He also starred in the Netflix drama miniseries, Hollywood.

7. Portrayed Rock Hudson in Netflix's Hollywood

Jake portrayed Rock Hudson, a closeted gay actor from the golden age of Hollywood, in the Netflix drama miniseries, Hollywood. His boyfriend, Archie Coleman, was played by Jeremy Pope.

The series is set in post World War II Hollywood -- booming with creativity and creative expression -- and follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers who want to reach the top of the mountain regardless of what it costs them.

Besides Picking and Pope, the miniseries starred an ensemble lineup consisting of such actors as David CorenswetDarren Criss, Laura Harrier, Dylan McDermottSamara WeavingHolland Taylor, and Joe Mantello.    

The seven-part miniseries premiered on Netflix on May 1, 2020.       

6. Is Jake Picking Picking Gay in Real Life?

With Jake playing the gay actor Rock Hudson, there is bound to be speculations about his off-screen sexuality. It seems that Picking is not gay in real life. He was in a relationship with model Fiona Barron.

It is unclear whether the two are still together as they have kept their relationship under wraps for the most part, but they walked the red carpet together for the premiere of the 2018 comedy movie, Blockers, wherein Picking played Kyler.  

5. He was Trained by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's Agent

Picking was goaded into giving acting a try by his high-school mathematics teacher. When he realized he had a knack for it, he sought professional help and studied under the casting agent, Carolyn Pickman.

Pickman is an esteemed casting agent who worked as the director of The Studio. She is also the co-founder and director of CP Casting Inc. Among her protégés, she counts Academy Award-winning actors like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.      

4. His Age and Height   

Jake Picking was born on March 2, 1991. He was born in Erlangen, Germany, where his father was stationed during his tenure as a United States Army veteran. He is 29 years old as of May 2020.

Jake Picking stands at 6' 1" (1.85 m). 

3. Set to Appear in Top Gun: Maverick

Picking is set to be a featured cast member in the upcoming movie, Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel to the hit 1986 action drama, Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer.

The movie is set to release on December 23, 2020, and will see Cruise and Kilmer reprising their roles with appearances from Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris.   

Picking is set to play Ron Slider Kerner, although not much is known about his character. 

2. Portrayed Officer Sean Collier in Patriots Day

Picking portrayed the slain officer of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Department, Sean A. Collier, during a terrorist attack, the premise of which would be the inspiration behind the 2016 dama movie, Patriots Day.

Based on the Boston Marathon bombings of April 15, 2013, which saw three people dead and 16 maimed, the movie starred Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Monaghan, Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons, and John Goodman, among others, and told the story through the eyes of various individuals who were witness to the heinous attacks or were the responders. 

1. Played Shawn in Sicario: Day of the Soldado

Another of Picking's acclaimed roles came in the 2018 action-crime movie, Sicario: Day of the Soldado. The movie is a sequel to the 2016 movie, Sicario starring Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Emily Blunt.
