Body-shaming in 2019 is met with almost universal derision, but it has not stopped people from indulging in the abhorrent culture. With social media providing a veil of anonymity, people feel emboldened to pass vile remarks about someone's body without facing the repercussions. 

Celebrities are a contingent of people most prone to snide comments about their body since they live and die in the spotlight. From models to actresses, from fat-shaming to skinny-shaming, these are 10 such celebrities who have been the victim of body-shaming but fought back.

1. Gigi Hadid

Being a model, Gigi is not new to being bashed for her body. She has been called too skinny, and too fat.

Despite this, the model continues to dazzle the runway and is currently one of the most successful models in the world.

2. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato has been in the spotlight since her Disney days, and even then had to defend herself against anonymous internet trolls. Things have only gotten worse since she grew up to be a pop star. 

People who dislike her music throw thinly-veiled insults hurled at her body. Demi is no pushover and stands up for herself.

3. Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez is universally considered to be one of the most beautiful people in the world. However, she has been subjected to comments about her body, a particularly distasteful act considering her publicized struggles with Lupus. 

Her body weight fluctuates due to her kidney issues and high blood pressure, despite which she maintains her body very well. The comments made her feel insecure and she had to go to therapy to deal with the aftermath of such heinous comments.

Following her life-threatening battle with Lupus, she has gained a new lease on life and recently fought back against comments made on her Instagram post.

4. Jennifer Aniston

The veteran of American sitcom Friends has had to put up with her fair share of derogatory comments as well. Some gossip magazines suggested that she looked pregnant because of her weight. This vituperation led her to pen an empowering essay for the Huffington Post in 2016 about acceptance and fighting back against the hate.

5. Rihanna

Rihanna has also been criticized over the years for her body. Some particularly vicious insults were hurled onto her following her 2018 Grammy performance. The most revolting of which were gossip sites that stirred rumors that she was pregnant due to her weight gain.

She replied to such trolls in her brand of sarcasm, with the brilliant Gucci Mane meme: 

"If you can’t handle me at my 2007 Gucci Mane, you don’t deserve me at my 2017 Gucci Mane"

That was definitely a perfect "shut the FU*K Up" for trollers.

6. Serena Williams

Serena Williams is widely recognized as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Being one of the top tennis players of all time has not stopped critics from scrutinizing her body and calling her "too muscular", calling her body "too masculine".

Initially bothered by such comments, Serena has learned to accept it as part of superstardom. She is empowered in her body type and refers to her body as a "weapon".

7. Kate Winslet

It is hard to imagine anyone calling Kate Winslet ugly, but such is the world we live in. She opened up about how she used to be bullied and called "too-ugly-to-be-an-actress" before she made her acting breakthrough.

Initially distraught over the comments, she had the last laugh, after all, she is one of the most successful actresses of all time.

8. Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore endured her share of criticism in the '90s. While still relatively young, she still retained some of her baby-fat. She was bullied mercilessly upon gaining recognition as an actress in the '90s. 

Instead of being bothered by it, she used it as inspiration to fuel her career and became one of the most respected actresses of all time.

9. Adele

Being one of the finest singers of all time has not shielded Adele from vile comments made about her body. The multiple Grammy Award-winning singer has had to put up with fat-shaming comments since her rise to stardom in 2006.

Far from being a pushover, Adele is notorious for replying to such remarks with wit, sarcasm, and style.
