    Eric Shawn was born on March 12, 1957, in New York City, New York, USA to Gilbert Shawn (former lieutenant colonel of Army) and Melba Rae (actress). He was raised alongside his sister named Lisa Shawn.

    Talking about education, he completed his schooling from Trinity School in 1975. For his further education, he joined Georgetown University and graduated from there in 1979 with a degree majoring in Urban Studies.
